Boston built a 21-point lead in the fourth quarter before holding on for a 106-99 victory in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown each scored 30 points to lead the Celtics, who are now one win away from their 18th NBA championship.

The Celtics took control of the game in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Mavericks 32-18. Tatum and Brown combined for 17 points in the period, and the Celtics hit 10 of their 18 shots from the field.

The Mavericks made a late run, cutting the Celtics' lead to 102-97 with just over two minutes remaining. But Tatum hit a jumper and Brown made a free throw to seal the win.

Luka Doncic led the Mavericks with 24 points, but he was just 9-of-24 from the field. Kyrie Irving added 19 points, but he was just 7-of-18 from the field.

The Celtics will have a chance to close out the series in Game 2 on Sunday night.
